Database/ Updates
Q. How do I update my Novus Rider 700?
Your Novus Rider will need to be updated by connecting it to the computer via the USB lead and downloading updates through our website. In order to update you will need to click on the download centre button on the home page and then register your unit if you have not already done so. Once registered you will be granted access to the update area where there will be instructions and the relevent files needed to download updates for your unit. Once the files have been downloaded you will have a program on your computer which you can use to update your unit.
Q. How can I check if the update was successful?
When the unit is first powered up it will briefly display four digits on the screen. This should show the update number in a date/month format. E.g 2007 would be the 20th July. If all files are up to date the software will also show a green square next to the database voice and firmware sections. See below:
If any of the above green squares show as orange it will indicate that the unit needs to be updated.
Q. How often should I update my unit?
A. This all depends on your situation and how much driving you do. Ideally to keep your unit as up to date as possible you should update your unit on a weekly basis. Novus recommend you update your rider 700 at least once a month.
Update Troubleshooting
Q. I am only seeing the below tabs when the software is open so am unable to download updates for my unit?
This issue could ouccur because of two reasons:
- The unit is not connected to the computer properly. The unit should be plugged into the computer and switched on. Once connected the computer should recognise the connection and additional tabs on the software will be added.
Note - If the tabs are not showing please attempt to disconnect and then reconnect the unit.
2. The USB driver is not installed correctly. Please Reinstall the software from our website.
If everything is connected properly you should see the below tabs:
Q. My Antivirus prgram is blocking the automatic update?
Occasionaly anti virus programs can think our software is potentially dangerous and cause problems. This is because the database file is so large and we are a relitivly small compnay which are unknown to your antivirus programme.
If you are experiencing problems with an anti virus programme blocking our update you may need to use the manual update part of the software. Instructions on how to do this can be found in the download centre section of the Rider 700.
Sound/Audio
Q. My Novus Rider sound has stopped working?
A. Make sure that the sound control on the unit is pushed right to the front of the unit. If problems persist please email support to arrange a return of the unit.
Q. My Novus Rider does not give audio warnings of cameras?
A. Please update your unit with the latest database version from the website.
Screen
Q. What are the first four digits which are displayed on the screen of my unit ?
A. Each week when a new database file is uploaded to our website it is assigned a unique database number. Every time your unit is switched on the first four digits which are displayed on the screen will be the database number. This number can be used to see which database version is currently running on your unit.
Q.Some of the LED digits are missing on the screen ?
A. If part of the LED on the screen of your unit is missing please email admin@novusauto.com to return your unit for a repair or replacement.

My unit is displaying the speed in KMPH. How can I change this?
The speed display setting can be changed between mph and kmph using the W700 software which can be downloaded from
www.novusauto.com . Once you have downloaded the software click on the setup tab and select MPH in the MPH-KMPH drop down box.
How can I change the settings on my Novus Rider 700?
All of the settings for the rider 700 can be changed using the setup control panel in the software. To access this you will need to install the software from the download centre and connect the unit up to the computer. You can then click ont he setup tab to display the below screen.
Power/ Battery
What does the eco function on the on, eco, off switch do?
The eco function is designed to preserve the battery life in the unit. Eco mode will reduce the power consumption drawn from the battery by turning the display of the unit off until a camera is approached.
How long will the battery last and how can I tell how much battery the unit has left?
When fully charged the battery should last around four hours when switched on and around 6 hours in eco mode. To tell the status of the battery when the unit is switched on four dots will represent how much charge is left in the battery.
The unit will also make a low beeping sound when the battery is very low to warn the user to connect to the power.
